Impact

Platypus leads the industry with the best gravity-powered micro-filter systems.   The introduction of the 2L system brought a more compact and user-friendly version of the system to a key consumer pricepoint. 

Challenge

The older 4L system was inherently complicated since it consists of two bags, two tubes, a directional filter and several fittings.  The updated system had to simplify the set-up so users wouldn't be overwhelmed by the number of different parts and lower the cost by 25%.

Design

A series of adapters was developed so that the user could filter water directly into their own container.  One of these was designed so that it would seamless link to other Platy systems like the 2L bottle cap and reservoir shut-off valve.  The new adapters eliminated a step from the process making it simpler for the user to understand.  Eliminating the need for a dirty reservoir reduced the cost.
